Hyderabad is the second largest city in the province of Sindh, and the fifth largest in Pakistan. It is situated 150 kilometers to the northeast of Karachi on the left bank of river Indus, which is famous for many ancient civilizations that flourished along its banks. Hyderabad has a huge cantonment and military outfit. It is a city of about 2 million people who cater for agricultural, industrial, education and healthcare activities of over 20 million people that mainly belong to the rural areas of Sindh.

Hyderabad is linked to all major cities of Pakistan by road and railroad networks. Nearest air and seaports in Karachi are two-hour drive from Hyderabad.

This thriving city has changed its name several times in its long history that can be traced back to two thousand years or more. A ruler of Kalhora dynasty, named Hyderabad as his capital, and rebuilt the city in 1768. The older part of the city originally within defensive walls of the much-famed Hyderabad Fort, situated on the rock, houses many of the artifacts that speak of its past glory.

To prospective students, the city offers a rich mix of academic, social, cultural and allied facilities. Besides Karachi, the major institutions of learning in the province of Sindh are located in Hyderabad. The nearby University of Sindh, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Sindh Agricultural University, and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, create an atmosphere that encourages mutual exchange of ideas and collaboration in research between these government owned seats of learning and the privately owned Isra University.
